We are so much better together!

Janice Tanton Art Academy Community is our private network exclusively meant for learning, sharing and growing your creativity.

This is where:

  •  We bring together all levels of diverse, aspiring artists and creatives or creative-wannabes who are ready to unleash their passion and inner personal creativity for self-growth.
  • We support each other in a nest of creative energy where no one is left behind! We all are working at different stages of our drawing and painting, and here we have a chance not only to learn through the valuable lessons and content, but from and WITH each other.
  • We share and develop our technical and self-expression skills through a regular practice of drawing, painting, journalling, learning and growing together so we can confidently share our authentic selves and place more beauty in the world through our creative works.

Who We Are::

By our nature, artists and creatives usually work alone in our studios and homes and for the most part, we would label ourselves introverts.

The chance to share with each other in a safe and non-competitive space is rare...except for here! Through collaboration, discussion, learning, drawing and painting we are stronger and provide support and learning that are nurturing and at your own pace.

If you consider yourself 'lacking in creativity', unable to draw a stick man or a straight line, THIS is your space! We are all developing artists and human beings. We support and help you along your journey to heartfelt creativity that is important to YOU.

Our philosophy is based on practice...and practice. Together, we can help each other become more accountable to carve out that time and space we need to express ourselves and unleash that much-needed beauty that is the artistic spirit in each of us.

Think of it like popping in on your creative neighbour for coffee and muffins. You can post at any time, anywhere and there is a VERY cool app that you can use to post and keep up to date with what's happening...be notified of everything....or just what you feel you'd like to know about.

Share Away. We're all human. We have a space just for sharing your daily creative life. No judgements, just support on our posts and forums.

Why would I need this?

Our world is more complex than it ever was. Creative, insightful people can contribute to change in a unique way. Your ability to think creatively will expand with practice and practice. You will find that you look at the world differently and find unique solutions to problems that you would have otherwise previously found impossible. You'll find it incredibly relaxing and see things quite differently. We're not saying it's easy - there is some serious play involved to get you there, but you can do this. You can learn to draw if you put in the time and effort. You can join with absolutely NO experience in art. Some of our most active members started with zero experience and are now creating works on a daily basis!

As human beings, we are always learning - but we tend to drop 'learning how to draw' when we are in our pre-teen years or so when we can't solve the problem of making something look like what it is that we see. We provide an easy way to 'learn to see' differently by learning how to draw, right back to the basics and implement a strategy that will have you improving not only how you draw or paint, but how you see the world and the beauty around us.

And we all need more beauty in our lives. This is just one way to get there!

Perhaps at some point in your life, a teacher or parent...perhaps a spouse told you, "You have no talent. Go be a ______. It's more practical.", when really all you wanted to do was draw and be an artist. I always say that there is NO time like the present to start realizing your dream, and learning how to create. Even finding a space where you can channel your creativity can be a hard thing to do in today's busy time. You deserve that time for yourself, and it doesn't take long!

We will help you establish a timely habit (perhaps daily, weekly...to sketch, draw and learn at your own pace) and within the friendly neighbourhood of our supportive community.

We will play. You will find some playful, fun exercises designed to nature your creative inner child. Hey - we can all get sad and jaded from our daily lives. This process offers an uplifting way to look at things a little differently through pencil and paintbrush and bring you back to wonder and stillness.

If you need a little relaxation in your busy life, developing a drawing practice can help you get to that zone, where time and motion stops and we can become still and relaxed in the moment of observing, through drawing and painting.

What our community members and students have to say...

I’ve been so grateful to Janice for initiating an online drawing  program during this pandemic. When I signed up, I had no idea what she had planned but expected the, now typical, online zoom lesson. I’ve done a few of those now and I am so happy Janice took an alternative route – still using Zoom, to bring us together as part of her artists’ community, but so much more. As a former educator I recognize Janice is encompassing all our learning styles in the way she delivers this program. It has kept me interested, motivated, and engaged. It has opened up for me the creative process – this course has not just been about drawing techniques but how to find the creative in me; which I really did not think I had much of! I have been so pleasantly surprised with what I can do and create. I have so enjoyed the community built with the other participants and the feedback, sharing of ideas and support that is given by everyone. I love it!

What I love about Janice's program:

★ The zoom classes: I liked them because I got feedback to help my drawings improve by connecting with other artists in the country.

★ The challenges: I liked how each challenge was different and how there was a reason why we needed to draw things. My favourite challenge was when we drew Star Wars creatures for George Lucus.

★ The Questions, Five Gratitudes and Articles: I liked how there was always something to do every day, from Monday's Five gratitudes to the Friday Article. It is not just draw something every day, it is stuff that involves being a better drawer, artist and human.

I was searching for an Art Course online to take part in when Covid -19 hit. I had no knowledge of the subject and had not even attempted to draw in over 25 years! I came upon Janice Tanton’s name and offer for students to take part in a Beginners Art Drawing Course under a new platform she was developing. Janice’s online art academy is Brilliant, with a capital “B”!

It is so user-friendly and welcoming. Between the video lessons and the social art community interaction it is one of the best participation choices I have ever made. I can draw many many things and I have learned many, many things. I’m improving in my ability and vision for all things ART! Janice is my Art Coach she is fantastic friendly and knowledgeable I would encourage everyone to take an Art Course with her 😊and join in a community of like-minded and curious students.

I have been a member of Janice Tanton’s on-line art class from the beginning of the project. I am fairly new to art and the growth I have seen in my drawing technique is quite fantastic. I love being able to work at my own pace, go back and replay video lessons that I didn’t absorb the first time and see the art my fellow students have created.

I feel a real sense of connection to my teacher and the other students. The feedback from Janice and the other artists has uplifted me as well as offering guidance. When I have been able to attend Zoom meetings I have come away inspired. Highly recommend this format for anyone doing distance online learning.

To anyone considering any of Janice Tanton’s courses in drawing, I highly recommend them. As a painter, I spent little time drawing before painting but know now the tremendous benefits of drawing first. The unlimited possibilities of pencil and the value of seeing in shades of gray through black have changed how I approach my art and improved my creativity and composition. The in depth, online approach has allowed those involved to work independently within their time frame and has provided ongoing positive feedback from members encouraging everyone no matter their ability or level of the drawing. Being able to view the evolution of everyone’s work over the months we have shared our drawings has been a truly rewarding experience.

-Yvonne (Banff, AB)

As an adult educator and student I have delivered and participated in many iterations of online synchronous and asynchronous learning platforms. I recently joined Janice Tanton’s online community to take an introductory drawing course. I found the course highly engaging; the blend of video demonstrations, written instructions, and practical activities was interesting and I learned. I learned a lot from the course content; however, I learned far more from the online community I joined to access the course. The community provides a safe and welcoming platform to try new things, apply skills, display assignments, and most importantly share in other community member’s learning. Combining discussion forums, research assignments, critique, and creative tasks with weekly live video conferencing meetings means there is a variety of learning methods to choose from. Janice’s online community is the best learning platform I have experienced; bar none.
